ingredients
  • 1 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 pkg. or 1 tbsp. active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp cornmeal
English Muffin Cheese Loaf
preparation
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in water.
  2. Sprinkle with yeast & let stand for 10 minutes.
  3. In a saucepan, scald the milk & salt; let cool to lukewarm.
  4. Add the scalded milk to the dissolved yeast.
  5. Add 1 cup flour, mustard, baking soda and cheese.
  6. Mix until smooth.
  7. Stir in the remaining flour.
  8. Grease a loaf pan & sprinkle with cornmeal.
  9. Place dough in pan and sprinkle more cornmeal on top.
  10. Cover and let rise in warm place for about 45 minutes.
  11. Bake at 400° F for approximately 25 minutes.
