ingredients
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. golden syrup
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

preparation
  1. Combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
  2. Combine syrup, beaten egg, and buttermilk.
  3. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  4. Knead 10-12 times on a board sprinkled with rolled oats.
  5. Mould dough into a ball shape and place on greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 375°F 50-60 minutes until it makes a hollow sound when tapped.
