
Pies, Tarts and Pastries
BUTTER TARTS AND PASTRY
- Pastry:
- 5 cups flour
- 1 lb. lard (I use butter)
- dash of salt
Cut lard into the flour and salt until pebbly.
In a Measuring cup, Mix Together and Add to the above:
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 egg
- Enough water to fill cup
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- Filling:
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup currents or raisins
- 1/2 cup crushed walnuts
- nutmeg (about 1/8 teaspoon)
- cinnamon (I add 1 teaspoon, but add to your taste)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- Preheat oven to 375°F
- Roll dough.
- Cut out tart shells with cutter and place in muffin pan.
- Fill unbaked tart shells 2/3 full with filling.
- Bake until pastry is slightly brown.
