ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground red pepper
  • 3 jars (15 oz each) whole onions, rinsed and drained
  • 1/3 cup sliced scallions
  • Garnish with sliced scallions and paprika
preparation
  1. Melt butter in a large saucepan.
  2. Add flour and stir over medium-low heat until smooth and frothy. Let bubble 2 minutes, stirring often.
  3. Whisk in milk, mustard, salt and red pepper and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Cook, stirring often, 2 minutes or until thickened.
  5. Stir in onions and scallions.
  6. Cook until onions are hot.
  7. Spoon into serving bowl and add garnish.

Planning Tip: Can be prepared up to 1 day ahead. Reheat in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring gently, or reheat in microwave.
